Warning Signs

When Should I See a Urologist?

Do not ignore these critical symptoms. Early diagnosis by Dr. Athar Hameed often leads to less invasive treatments and significantly better outcomes.

Blood in the urine, even if it happens only once and causes no pain, is a red flag. It is the most common early sign of bladder or kidney cancer, as well as kidney stones. You should schedule an evaluation immediately.
Sudden, sharp, agonizing pain (renal colic) that radiates from your back to your groin is the classic presentation of a kidney stone. If the pain is severe enough that you cannot sit still, seek medical attention.
If you are straining to urinate, experiencing a weak stream, or feeling like your bladder is never fully empty, you likely have an enlarged prostate (BPH) or a urethral stricture causing an obstruction.
Any new mass, firmness, or lump in the testicle—especially if it does not hurt—must be checked by a urologist right away. This is the primary warning sign of testicular cancer, which is highly curable when caught early.
Urinary incontinence is not just a "normal part of aging." Whether it's sudden strong urges (urge incontinence) or leaking when you cough/sneeze (stress incontinence), there are highly effective medical and surgical treatments available.
