HoLEP Surgery

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate: The modern gold standard for any size enlarged prostate.

HoLEP Surgery

The Ultimate BPH Solution

For decades, treating massively enlarged prostates required highly invasive open surgery. HoLEP has completely revolutionized BPH treatment. It is an advanced, minimally invasive laser procedure that can treat a prostate of *any* size.

During HoLEP, the surgeon uses a high-powered Holmium laser to carefully peel away the obstructive adenoma (the inner part of the prostate blocking the urine) entirely, much like peeling an orange from the inside.

How The Procedure Works

1. Endoscopic Access

A scope is passed through the urethra. No cuts are made on the outside of the body.

2. Laser Enucleation

The laser precisely cuts the tissue planes, separating the blocking tissue from the prostate capsule.

3. Morcellation

The large pieces of tissue are pushed into the bladder and instantly ground up and suctioned out by a morcellator.

4. Tissue Testing

Unlike some vaporization techniques, HoLEP preserves the tissue so it can be sent to pathology to check for hidden cancer.

Why Choose Dr. Athar Hameed?

HoLEP offers the lowest recurrence rate of any BPH surgery (<1% need re-treatment). Because the laser seals blood vessels as it cuts, bleeding is virtually zero, making it exceptionally safe for patients on blood thinners.

Frequently Asked Questions

For large prostates (over 80 grams), HoLEP is definitively superior. It removes more tissue, has a lower bleeding risk, shorter catheter time, and unlike TURP, the prostate will never grow back to cause blockage again.
Most HoLEP patients have their catheter removed the very next morning and are discharged home passing urine freely.
HoLEP does not damage the nerves responsible for erections. However, like all prostate surgeries, it will likely cause 'retrograde ejaculation' (dry climax), which is harmless.
