TURP & Bipolar TURP

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate: The trusted, time-tested solution for BPH.

TURP & Bipolar TURP

The Historic Standard

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) has been the bedrock of BPH surgery for decades. It is a highly effective, endoscopic procedure designed to widen the urethral channel by shaving away the prostate tissue blocking it.

Dr. Athar Hameed utilizes advanced **Bipolar TURP** technology, which is significantly safer than traditional monopolar TURP. Bipolar energy cuts cleanly and seals blood vessels rapidly, minimizing surgical risks.

How The Procedure Works

1. Visualization

A resectoscope with a high-definition camera is inserted through the urethra to the prostate.

2. Tissue Resection

An electrically heated wire loop is used to meticulously carve away small 'chips' of the obstructing prostate tissue.

3. Hemostasis

The bipolar loop is used to coagulate (seal) bleeding vessels immediately to maintain a clear field.

4. Irrigation

The shaved tissue chips are washed out of the bladder and sent to a laboratory for pathological analysis.

Why Choose Dr. Athar Hameed?

Bipolar TURP uses saline irrigation rather than glycine, completely eliminating the risk of 'TUR Syndrome' (a dangerous drop in blood sodium). It offers excellent, durable improvements in urine flow for small to medium-sized prostates.

Frequently Asked Questions

TURP is excellent for prostates between 30 to 80 grams. If the prostate is massively enlarged (over 100g), HoLEP is the safer and more definitive option.
